Specialty Contact Lens Evaluations

Some patients have visual needs or corneal conditions that may not be adequately addressed with conventional soft contact lenses. Specialty contact lenses provide additional options for improving vision and addressing more complex prescriptions for some complex or irregular corneas.

At Simply Vision Optometry, we offer individualized evaluations and fittings for gas permeable (GP), scleral, and impression-based scleral contact lenses.

Gas Permeable (GP) Contact Lenses

Gas permeable lenses are durable, oxygen-permeable contact lenses that maintain their shape on the eye. Their smooth optical surface can provide crisp, stable vision, particularly for patients with certain types of astigmatism or irregular corneas.

GP lenses may be an option for patients seeking an alternative to soft contact lenses or those whose visual needs are better addressed with this lens design.

Scleral Contact Lenses

Scleral lenses are larger-diameter gas-permeable lenses that vault over the cornea and rest on the white portion of the eye (the sclera). A fluid-filled space between the lens and cornea helps create a smooth optical surface, which can improve vision for patients with irregular corneal shapes.

Scleral lenses may be particularly beneficial for patients with keratoconus, corneal scarring, or irregular corneas resulting from previous eye surgery or injury.

EyePrintPRO™ Impression-Based Scleral Lenses

EyePrintPRO is a highly customized scleral lens designed using a detailed impression of the eye's surface. Unlike conventional scleral lens fitting methods, this approach captures the unique contours of the eye to create a lens tailored to its individual shape.

This specialized fitting method may be particularly beneficial for patients with complex corneal or ocular surface irregularities, including those who have experienced difficulty achieving a comfortable or stable fit with conventional scleral lenses.

Personalized Specialty Lens Fitting

Specialty contact lens fittings require careful evaluation of the corneal shape, ocular surface, and individual visual needs.

We use detailed corneal measurements and advanced corneal topography to help guide lens selection and assess the fit. For EyePrintPRO, an impression of the ocular surface is used to create a customized lens design.

Depending on the lens design and complexity of the prescription, the fitting process may involve diagnostic lenses, follow-up visits, and adjustments to optimize vision, comfort, and ocular health.

Our goal is to find a contact lens solution that provides clear, comfortable vision while supporting long-term eye health.
