Dry Eye Evaluation & Treatment
Dry eye disease occurs when the eyes do not produce enough tears or when tears evaporate too quickly. Symptoms may include dryness, burning, irritation, redness, fluctuating vision, excessive tearing, or a gritty sensation.
At Simply Vision Optometry, we provide comprehensive dry eye evaluations and individualized treatment options to identify contributing factors, improve comfort, and support long-term ocular surface health.
Comprehensive Dry Eye Evaluation
Our dry eye assessment examines tear quality, tear stability, ocular surface health, eyelid condition, and meibomian gland function.
Meibography
Meibography allows us to examine the structure of the meibomian glands within the eyelids. These glands produce the oily layer of the tear film, helping prevent tears from evaporating too quickly.
By identifying changes in gland structure or signs of gland loss, we can better understand the underlying causes of dry eye and guide treatment recommendations.
Personalized Dry Eye Treatments
Professional Eyelid Cleansing — ZEST & NuLids
Healthy eyelids play an important role in maintaining a stable tear film. Accumulated debris, oils, and buildup along the eyelid margins can contribute to irritation, inflammation, and meibomian gland dysfunction.
At Simply Vision Optometry, we offer professional eyelid cleansing using:
- ZEST (Zocular Eyelid System Treatment): ZEST is an in-office eyelid cleansing treatment that uses a specially formulated, okra-derived cleansing gel to gently remove accumulated debris and buildup along the eyelashes and eyelid margins.
- NuLids: NuLids uses a specialized handheld device to gently clean and exfoliate the eyelid margins, helping remove accumulated debris and support better eyelid hygiene.
These treatments may be recommended for patients with blepharitis, eyelid inflammation, or dry eye symptoms associated with poor eyelid hygiene.
Prescription Medications
Prescription eye drops and other medications may be recommended to address inflammation, support tear production, or manage specific underlying causes of dry eye.
Treatment is selected according to each patient's symptoms, examination findings, and individual needs.
Vital Tears — Autologous Serum Eye Drops
Vital Tears are customized eye drops prepared from components of a patient's own blood serum.
They contain naturally occurring substances that may help support the ocular surface and may be considered for patients with persistent or more complex dry eye conditions.
Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT)
Low-level light therapy uses controlled light energy as a noninvasive treatment intended to support eyelid health and meibomian gland function.
LLLT may be recommended as part of a personalized treatment plan for certain patients with evaporative dry eye or meibomian gland dysfunction.
Lumenis OptiLight — Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
OptiLight by Lumenis uses specialized intense pulsed light technology to help manage dry eye disease associated with meibomian gland dysfunction.
The treatment delivers controlled pulses of light to the skin around the eyes and is designed to help address inflammation and improve meibomian gland function.
OptiLight may be recommended as part of a comprehensive treatment plan for eligible patients.
Lumenis OptiPLUS — Radiofrequency (RF)
OptiPLUS by Lumenis uses radiofrequency energy to deliver controlled warmth to tissues around the eyelids.
This treatment is intended to support meibomian gland function by providing targeted heating and may complement other dry eye therapies, including OptiLight.
OptiPLUS and OptiLight use different technologies and may be recommended individually or together depending on each patient's clinical findings and treatment needs. See our dry eye technology.
Ongoing Dry Eye Management
Dry eye is often a chronic condition that requires ongoing care. Some patients respond well to a single treatment approach, while others benefit from a combination of therapies.
At Simply Vision Optometry, we monitor your symptoms, ocular surface health, and response to treatment to make adjustments when needed.
Our goal is to identify the underlying causes of your symptoms and develop a personalized treatment plan that supports greater comfort and healthier eyes.
