Refractive Surgery Consultation & Co-Management
Refractive surgery offers an opportunity to reduce dependence on glasses or contact lenses. With several surgical options available, choosing the most appropriate procedure depends on your prescription, eye health, age, lifestyle, and visual goals.
At Simply Vision Optometry, we provide personalized refractive surgery consultations and postoperative co-management to help patients explore their surgical options and receive continued care throughout the process.
Corneal Refractive Surgery
These procedures reshape the cornea to improve how light focuses on the retina.
LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis)
LASIK uses a laser to reshape the cornea beneath a thin corneal flap. It is commonly performed to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, and typically offers relatively rapid visual recovery.
PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy)
PRK reshapes the cornea using a laser after removing the outermost surface layer. Because it does not require a corneal flap, PRK may be an alternative for certain patients who are not ideal LASIK candidates. Visual recovery is generally slower than with LASIK.
SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction)
SMILE uses a femtosecond laser to create a small piece of tissue within the cornea, which is removed through a small incision. This flapless procedure can correct nearsightedness and certain forms of astigmatism in eligible patients.
Lens-Based Refractive Surgery
Rather than reshaping the cornea, these procedures use an implanted lens or replace the eye's natural lens to correct vision.
EVO Implantable Collamer Lens (EVO ICL)
EVO ICL is a specialized lens implanted inside the eye, behind the iris and in front of the natural lens. Unlike corneal laser procedures, EVO ICL does not require removing corneal tissue.
It may be an option for patients with moderate to high nearsightedness or those who are not suitable candidates for laser vision correction.
Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE / Clear Lens Exchange)
Refractive lens exchange involves replacing the eye's natural lens with an artificial intraocular lens to correct vision.
This procedure may be considered for certain patients, particularly those experiencing age-related changes in near vision. Different intraocular lens options can address distance vision, astigmatism, and near-vision needs.
Preoperative Consultation & Evaluation
Choosing refractive surgery begins with understanding your eyes and your expectations.
During your consultation, we review your prescription, visual history, ocular health, and lifestyle to help determine which surgical options may be appropriate.
When indicated, we coordinate with refractive surgeons for additional testing, surgical evaluation, and treatment planning. Final surgical eligibility and procedure selection are determined through the surgeon's comprehensive evaluation.
Postoperative Co-Management
Our care continues beyond the initial surgical consultation.
In coordination with your refractive surgeon, we provide postoperative examinations to monitor healing, visual recovery, and overall eye health.
Follow-up care may include evaluating visual acuity, monitoring the cornea or other relevant eye structures, assessing postoperative symptoms, and identifying concerns that may require additional attention from your surgeon.
By working closely with your surgical team, we aim to provide a smooth transition between surgical care and your ongoing eye care at Simply Vision Optometry.
Our goal is to help you make an informed decision about refractive surgery and support your vision before and after the procedure.
